The 10th of August is the seventh World Day Against Witch Hunts.
Why is it important to support this day?
Because awearness breaks the silence of a human rights abuse that is often considered a thing of the past.
Modern day witch accusations still use the principals laid out in the Malleus Maleficarum (The hammer of the witches) from 1486, and it continues to be about social vulnerability, lack of healthcare, and gaps in education. Witch hunting still affects mainly women, children, and people with disabilities. When people don’t have security, fear and anxiety take over, and they look for someone to blame, leading to people being ostracised, injured, and even killed because they are accused of practising witchcraft.
